I have been riding at birtles now for almost 4 years. Previous to this I have owned horses and have been riding most of my life. However, the horse I had before joining birtles was recently backed and too much for me to handle. On two occasions this horse proved to be dangerous and I found myself in situations that I couldn't handle, something that was difficult to admit at the time, I was left feeling scared and unhappy. When I joined birtles I gained confidence, I was able to enjoy riding again. Sally is very considerate and always tried to match the rider to an appropriate horse in terms of level of ability and personality. I had become so nervous I was not able to canter or advance into a faster pace than trot however now I am able to perform more advanced dressage moves such as half pas and canter pirouette, I also enjoy jumping and have schooled horses at the yard, developing my riding ability every time I ride. The horses at birtles are cared for well and seem happy, there is a natural harmony at this yard and a holistic approach is used for both horses and rider. I would recommend this riding school to anyone who is lacking confidence, nervous or wanting to improve riding skills.
Having come back to riding after a long break, I can highly recommend Birtles Equestrian. I've found the staff both knowledgeable and welcoming, and the horses are extremely responsive. I'm confident that with the input of Sally and her team, my riding will develop, and I'm learning new skills on every lesson! Well worth a visit if you are considering starting riding, or looking for somewhere to develop to the next level.
